It feels like I need to re-write this. I was so angry before, but now I'm so thankful they're both still with me. Rob is one of the sweetest human beings I know, and my Spicy Sarah has been my comfort and my joy through some of my darkest times. They have grown up to be loving, decent, dependable people, so it breaks my heart to see that they're both still suffering and struggling to heal. The driver that hit them fell asleep and swerved into their lane, hitting them head-on. She left Rob fighting for his life and Sarah living a nightmare, helpless on the side of the road, watching emergency responders pry her brother from the wreckage. Dash cam shows Rob was driving the speed limit, hands at 10 & 2, eyes on the road. It just kills me that even though he was doing everything right, the other driver came within a millimeter of killing him. The force of the crash tore his aorta, shattered his left leg and both elbows, and also gave him a chemical burn which left him with a gaping wound on his leg. Rob's quick reaction saved his sister from broken bones, but she was still injured by the impact and now suffers knee, neck and shoulder pain, plus she relives the horror of almost losing her brother every time she has to get in the car. I'm so impressed by the fact that she still went back to work to help pay bills. Before the accident, Rob was working 2 jobs to try to help make ends meet, but now it's unclear if he will be able to work again. The other driver's insurance only covers less than half of his medical costs, well over $600K and climbing. If you are able to donate, it will help with ongoing medical bills and much needed handicap home modifications. Your generosity goes a long way in relieving the suffering these kids absolutely do not deserve.
