Rivers Edge Horse Rescue is a safe haven to many different animals, including senior horses along with aged goats, cats, and rabbits .
Hurricane Irene left us with major damage and flooding! The flooding is long past, but we still have a lot to do to get things back to the way they were. The soil and footing in our arena all washed away. Some of the fencing around our fields still needs to be replaced. Most of our pastures produce only weeds now - until they were flooded those fields produced beautiful, lush grass that fed the horses. With this gone, we have to resort to bringing in hay for them. We still get flooded in some areas with just a heavy rainfall!
Three of our beloved horses, Droopy, Baby Girl, and Rolo, have Cushing's Disease; their medication is very expensive!
We need your help to continue! Our Rescue stands a chance of closing if funds can not be raised.
Please help the sanctuary horses live out the remainder of their lives in the home they know and love, with peace, security, safety, and serenity and the promise of full and happy years to come.
How the funds will be used:
We use approximately 120 bales of hay per week; we especially need Winter Hay for the months of December 2015 to June 2016 --- that is 3,360 bales of Winter Hay needed for 7 months at $3,120 per month, a total of $21,840
Grain for the horses costs approximately $420.00 a week. We care for older horses, several of whom are on medication and need grain in their diets. Cost per year $22,000
Medical supplies for our horses with special needs:
approximately $4,800 for the year.
Farrier care every six weeks for all of our rescues - $1,050 per visit, nearly $9,000 every year.
Wormer for the horses - about $4,000 per year.
Dental and general medical care, including vaccinations and physical exams - $9,000
Phone, fuel , supplies . - $3,000
TOTAL ---- $71,240
Remaing funds will be used for what is needed for the rescues and for repairs and unexpected bills.
