On Friday, our sweet 10-year-old Pomeranian, Riley, was in a severe accident that left her in the ICU. She’s been fighting so bravely ever since, and our family is doing everything we can to get her the care she needs.
Riley isn’t just a dog—she’s my sister’s best friend, her constant companion through every major chapter of life, and the brightest light in our family. We couldn’t imagine life without her and are determined to give her the chance to heal and continue bringing her joy and love to everyone around her.
Riley is scheduled for a CT scan on Monday, followed by surgery to treat her injuries. Right now, she’s facing neurological damage, slowed motor skills, and loss of mobility in her left front leg. She can’t stand on her own yet, but we’ve already seen progress in her other three legs. The doctors and vet technicians are hopeful that with surgery and ongoing treatment, Riley can regain her strength and live her happiest life again.
The road to recovery will be long and filled with additional treatments once the full plan is determined after her CT scan. As you can imagine, the medical costs for emergency care, ICU hospitalization, scans, and surgery are overwhelming.
We are reaching out with open hearts to ask for your support. Every contribution—no matter the size—will go directly toward Riley’s medical bills and rehabilitation so we can bring this sweet girl home to her mom and dad in Texas.
Your kindness, prayers, and generosity mean the world to us during this difficult time. Thank you for helping us fight for Riley’s recovery and giving her the chance to keep being the little princess who makes life brighter for everyone she meets.
❤️ With gratitude,
Our Family
Update on Riley - 09/23
Riley continues to show progress day by day. A team of surgeons met and determined she no longer needs a CT scan, as her symptoms are more aligned with neurological issues —specifically a traumatic brain injury.
She is now being transferred from the ICU at Blue Pearl in Arden Hills to the neurology ICU team in Golden Valley. There, Riley will undergo an MRI to help determine the next best steps on her road to recovery.
We are feeling optimistically hopeful for all of the progress Riley has made over the past few days. While we know there is still a long road ahead, we are so grateful for every small and big win along the way.
Thank you all for your prayers, love, and support—it means the world to us as we fight alongside our girl. ❤️
Update on Riley - 09/25
Following Riley's traumatic brain injury this past Friday, the incredible staff at @bluepearlardenhills helped us to come up with a plan toward improvement, not only for her motor skills, but also for her neurological health. Riley underwent an MRI, and while we were hopeful that it would provide answers, the doctors ultimately decided a CT scan was also necessary since they couldn’t confirm whether the fracture in her skull had lodged into her brain. The scan revealed a blood clot and some blood surrounding her brain, as well as multiple fractures throughout and shattering to the right side of her skull.
She’s showing small steps of progress with her mobility, but still can’t walk more than a few steps without support and struggles to get up on her own. We’re hopeful that with antibiotics, love, and time, her brain swelling will go down and she’ll begin regaining more of her mobility. Through it all, her appetite has been strong—especially for chicken, her favorite.
The doctors initially recommended she remain hospitalized for close monitoring another night or two. However, they felt Riley would make better progress at home because of our bond. Today, she’s back where she belongs—at home with her mama—and we’ll continue her healing journey together. ❤️
I’m so thankful and humbled by the incredible support we’ve received—Riley, Andy, and I can’t tell you how much it means to us. To our family, our friends, our community old and new, we love and appreciate you more than we can express.
