Hello everyone! I'm Ricky Babineaux and I'm in pursuit of a dream I've been chasing all my life. The dream is finally here and I've qualified for the Olympic Trials as a 400meter hurdler. I need help with some hefty travel expenses over the next couple of weeks...to get to Tracktown USA in July for a week at the Trials and also to run 2 more times at out-of-town meets before then to keep myself in best competitive form. I hope you'll donate to my cause!
I come from a small town in Louisiana and I have grown and worked so hard to get this moment. Growing up I was not priviledged. I dedicated all of my time and days to school and athletics. After high school I attended Junior college at Hinds CC, then transferred and graduated from Texas A&M University. Some of my biggest highlights and stats are: 2014 World record holder and gold medalist in the 4x4 relay, 5-time NCAA 1st time All American, 2014 NCAA National Champion. I was one of a few athletes to set records in two conferences - SEC and Big 12 - and I set records Indoors and Outdoors.
I'm currently at the University of Houston being coached and mentored by Carl Lewis, 5-time Olympian and winner of 9 Olympic Gold Medals, 1 Silver Medal and 8 World Championships. Needless to say, I feel honored to have him as my coach. But I also know that I'm doing all the right things with my training...I'm focused, my goal is in sight and I'm working hard on all the details. I still have a few hurdles to sail over, though, to make sure I get it perfect before Trials. I have until the end of June to finish the practice meets, then get to Eugene, OR. If I do well there, I'm headed to Rio!!!!
Why is track and running in the 2016 Olympics so important to me? I have given everything to support this dream...from emptying my my bank accounts, losing my home and moving in with family so I could continue my training. This is my time to make it happen.
Thank you for reading my story. Any contribution will be a blessing, and know that every dime will contribute to this athlete's dream. I hope you'll grasp this opportunity and run the hurdles with me!! God bless.
