Richard Scarsella Stroke Recovery
Donation protected
On January 30th my uncle, Richie Scarsella, suffered a massive stroke while in the hospital for an unrelated medical issue. An emergency craniectomy was performed the next day to save his life. As you can imagine he now has a long road of recovery ahead of him. After many weeks in the ICU, he has now been moved to a rehab facility. The stroke has left him with impaired mobility (left side paralysis), speech deficiencies, and the inability to perform many daily tasks we all take for granted.
Richie has shown much resiliency in his recovery so far, but still has a long road ahead of him. As someone who has never asked for anything and lived very independently; this has become a very difficult time to realize the costs of therapies not covered by insurance that are integral in his recovery and to the improvement of his quality of life.
He will soon be having his follow up surgery to the craniectomy to replace the piece of his skull that was removed to release the pressure on his brain and allow for healing to begin. The real work in getting back to himself will now start. Just one of the recommended therapies has been hyperbaric oxygenation which will alone cost over $10k for the treatment plus transportation getting to and from the facility.
We know there are are many different causes out there, but we also know that Richie is an amazing friend who has made everyone he comes into contact with laugh until their face hurts. We ask of you to think of a time shared with him, and hope that you can donate whatever possible in hopes that this will put a smile on his face like he most likely has put on yours. On behalf of his son Vincent, sister Gina, myself and the rest of Richie’s family and friends, we will be eternally grateful in any amount shared in helping Richie get back to the vibrant life he was used to.
