On the night of Friday, February 6th, the home of Richard Hawk (who many of you may know as Richard Arnold) burned to the ground in the Round Fire, which leveled 40 homes in Swall Meadows and Paradise. While insurance can help recoup some of the costs of rebuilding, other losses fall solely on the victims’ shoulders. In addition to losing his home and everything inside, Richard lost his life savings, including all of the money he had put away for retirement, when his fire safe vaporized, due to the extraordinary heat of this fire.
Richard taught and coached at Bishop Union High and worked as a school counselor throughout Owens Valley for 49 years.
Our community is unique in that heavy burdens do not have to be carried alone. While we can’t recreate a home or a lifetime of savings, we can do our best to offer support. Donations of any size are much appreciated.
