Rhi’s Cancer Journey
Donation protected
Rhi was feeling unwell for about a week or so, it started as what we thought was Tonsillitis but after a week of getting worse and her eyesight deteriorating mum & dad called 111 and she was taken to A&E in an ambulance.
Within hours her bloods were taken and the hospital confirmed that she had Luekemia with a white blood cell count of 216 (normal is 10). It was a massive shock to everyone.
She became so ill so quickly and to make it worse, no one has been able to visit her in the hospital due to Covid-19 restrictions. She's been fighting this all on her own.
Rhi started Chemo the very same day that she was taken in and a few days later was transferred to St Thomas' in London with a suspected infection as they have better facilities and resources to treat her. She has had strong chemo rounds and blood transfusions every day, she was even on a ventilator for a time, yet has remained so strong throughout it all, she really is incredible. And all the doctors and nurses at the hospital have been absolutely amazing.
The bittersweet news was that the Doctors in St Thomas' detected the subtype of Luekemia that Rhi has which is a very rare type called Acute Promyelocytic Leukaemia which, of all of the types actually has a high rate of cure (!!!!) we are so, so grateful to the Doctor's for detecting it so early, they really have saved her life.
This next week is the most crucial as the chemo will really start affecting her body, she's very weak and has unfortunately started to lose her hair due to the treatment.
We've been contacted by so many people who love Rhi wanting to help support, so we've set up this page to raise funds to go towards a wig for her. All going well, she is set to marry the lovely Aidan in September so having lush locks would help make it a day to remember. For many reasons.
The wig we're looking at is £1,800, of which we will put the rest in, and if there are any donations over the target it will be donated to a chosen charity (We'll speak to the hospital and let you know which one)
And I just wanted to say that we have been overwhelmed with the love, energy and support from all of our family and friends and have passed this all onto Rhi, you really have been the rocks we've all needed through this time. If you have any messages for her please let us know and we'll pass it on as she can’t read messages as her eyesight hasn't come back yet.
