My name is Reva Oberlin. I play the flute at Lakeview High School. I am requesting donations to help fund my tour with the Blue Lake International Exchange Southern Winds program. Rehearsals start November 6, 2016 and the European tour begins June 19, 2017 and returns July 16, 2017.
Every summer when I have gone to Blue Lake, I have been hoping that I would some day be able to do the International Program. I am so excited that I have been selected this year. I know that I have at least one of my Blue Lake friends going too, and I am looking forward to making some new ones. In this program, I will have the opportunity to make friends from many different countries.
I have learned so much from Blue Lake. Playing in front of so many people all the time in lessons and tech classes has helped me overcome some nervousness when playing if front of others. Now I am not so afraid to audition and try new things. This year in school, I am first chair flute in the Wind Ensemble, and I have recently auditioned and made the Spartanaires which is a singing and dancing group. I am also learning the piano and I will be playing in the pit orchestra for the school musicals.
Being in the Blue Lake International Southern Winds, I will have the added experience of having 30 French student musicians join our group to form one band. We will practice together at a cultural residency in Figeac, France. I will get to experience how people live in another country while doing what I love... playing the flute. We will tour European cities for about three weeks and perform a concert in each place while staying with host families.
I have met many exchange students at school and at Blue Lake. I have really enjoyed getting to know them and the stories of their lives back at their homes. I look forward to learning what their cultures are like in person while sharing my culture with people who have never been to America.
Joining Blue Lake International will be like a giant session at Blue Lake with so much more. I will be with others who love music as much as I do, I will get to play and learn about music every day, I will get to see countries that have existed long before mine and learn about new cultures and traditions. I will see art, hear music, and view sceneries that I have only been able to experience on the internet and movies.
I am so excited about this opportunity! This will be my first trip outside the United States and I will get to learn so much about other cultures first hand while sharing music. Thank you for your consideration for my fundraiser to help me achieve my goals.
