Rescued stray, Bob, urgently needs dental treatment
Donation protected
Hi,
This is Bob. Until a few weeks ago, Bob was a stray that had started visiting our garden (and house) regularly, fighting with our cats and eating their food. We posted his picture on local social media pages but no one recognised or claimed him. I also contacted some local cat charities to see if they would be able to help but understandably they weren't able to take him on if he had no traceable owner as they were all at full capacity.
One evening we managed to corner him and next day took him to our local vets to check to see if he was microchipped. He wasn't and he was also unneutered.
We had already decided that if he was a stray we would pay to have him neutered because although he wasn't our cat, he had become our problem and we felt this was the most responsible action we could take because even if we were unable to keep him or he was too feral, at least he would be less of a nuisance to the neighbourhood and also unable to reproduce. At this point our cats were fearful of going in the garden in case they encountered him.
He was neutered at our local vets, Jed & Friends in Fenny Stratford, who also gave him several baths to get rid of all the dust, grit & oil from his fur. Whilst checking him over, the vet also discovered that he had a very sore mouth and is in need of a dental. We looked after him following his neutering and we also paid for him to be flea & worm treated, have an antibiotic jab & pain relief
A few weeks on, and the antibiotics & pain relief have worn off and now he is very
obviously struggling to eat because his mouth is too sore and he has a lost a little weight because of this. He also has very smelly dribble from his mouth.
After a shaky start with our other cats, he is beginning to settle and bizarrely rarely leaves our house even though he's free to come and go as he pleases, so we are going to keep him. However, the estimate for a dental is in excess of £1000 so our vet has suggested that we try fundraising .
We call him Bob because he reminds us of Bob the Street Cat from the book and films. We have no idea about his history or how old he is but we really want to give him a better & less painful life than he's had in recent times.
As we can't let him suffer any longer, he's booked to have dental treatment on 17 July. If you're in a position to donate a couple of pounds to help pay for the treatment, that would be amazing.
Thank you
