After almost 5 years! Help us reopen The Hook Bar

The Backstory:

I fell in love with the area and La Paz 11 years ago, today actually. The idea this could somehow be a reality was beyond my conception but, somehow I made it happen.

The Hook was born from a crazy dream of a bar/tour company in Mexico in early 2020 as the COVID pandemic was changing the world.

Things were hard from the beginning, I didn't speak any Spanish, I had no business experience throw in a pandemic with limited capacities and hours added to and a new world to figure out!

We had some insanely fun days and nights when we did have customers!

Sadly, after only a year we had to make the difficult call to close the restaurant and bar and focus on the Tour side of the business.

This meant cutting the staff from 9 hard working employees to 3.

It broke my heart to tell my staff I did not have work for them, as much or more than closing the actual restaurant.

Now, approaching five years later, and with a new 3 year rental contract, we are planning to reopen the bar and restaurant!

Of course expenses have stacked up in our process of reopening The Hook with the licensing and permits (adding more than a few "extra charges") thru the local entities, new required signage per the city, and a new coat of paint for the front (also per the city as it was too yellow...still is yellow today).

The Goal:

Open the restaurant and bar within one month.

We need to run water, gas and electric to our patio (main picture) adding lighting and decor as well as some chairs and tables, glassware and bar tools. Reshaping the front for our T-shirt etc boutique behind the bar and more seating in the front bar area.

Lots of plants and a small herb garden is planned, and maybe even Dahlias again. Painting and repairs and the list goes on.

In Patio area we will build a small stage area to host local community events, live music, and cultural events and launch a local artisan weekend market and offer a platform for talented local artists.

All in all, your help will create local jobs, open a space for local artists to show their work, and help an old bartender reopen his dream bar across from the Sea of Cortez in beautiful La Paz, Baja California Sur.
