We are raising $10,800. These funds will cover artist fees and materials for set, prop, and costume construction. Orfeo in Underland employs 8 Vocalists, 6 Instrumentalists, a Stage Director, a Music Director, a Puppet Designer, a Mask Designer, a Costume Designer, and a Stage Manager.
Project Description:
The audience arrives at the funeral of Euridice. Orfeo is overcome with grief. Guided by Amore, Orfeo ventures to retrieve Euridice from Underland. Reflecting on the collective trauma brought about by the pandemic, Orfeo in Underland grapples with communal loss and asks what moving forward looks like. In Music Director Danielle Jagelski's orchestration for piano and string quintet, she assigns the original woodwind lines to the vocalists. Stage Director Joellen Sweeney's storytelling in Orfeo in Underland includes puppetry, movement, and immersive staging. The performance occurs at twilight, during the transition of light to dark and the chorus' fantastical puppets provide light on Orfeo's journey in Underland. We are joined by Arcadia Trueheart as Puppet Designer and Ophir EL-Boher as Costume Designer. Adhering to CDC guidelines, the production is designed for a limited audience in an ADA accessible outdoor location. The audience will register for tickets in advance, wear masks, and be spaced 6+ feet apart.
We hope you will consider a tax deductible donation to help Renegade Opera continue to create innovative productions, support local artists, and offer accessible opera to the public.
