Remembering Our Bo

Imagine living your whole life not knowing your true identity. Now imagine finding out that the people who you grew up around are the same people whom you have been searching for in order to complete your village. That is the story of my sister Boysita McCoy who is now Boysita Sikes Burgess. Bo as we call her searched for years to find her father. That search ended last year thanks to Ancestry DNA. Soon after fulfilling a life long dream her world was shattered when a nagging cough was diagnosed as stage IV lung cancer. Bo underwent chemotherapy which appeared to be shrinking the cancer until treatment was halted by her insurance. As many would know chemo takes a lot out of you so Bo was forced to leave her job. This employment separation caused her to lose her insurance coverage. Her husband’s insurance became her primary insurance. This change affected the plans for her treatment. During this lapse in treatment her condition began to deteriorate. Bo was admitted to the hospital with what the hospitalist diagnosed as double pneumonia. With that being said the pulmonary doctor suggested that Bo get discharged to hospice care. Immediately we started looking for alternative facilities. Due to the recommendation of the doctor (who is not her primary or regular doctor) the insurance has denied any further treatment. Bo is strong and so full of life. She wants to continue to fight this monster. We are asking for prayers, words of encouragement and financial support to help her continue this fight. Yes she has cancer but cancer does not have her. God has her. Please give what you can and share Bo’s story. She is a beautiful wife, daughter, sister, auntie, niece, cousin and friend. Her new chapter of life has just begun and all she wants is to continue her story. Thank you for whatever it is that you do in support of our Bo.
