Dear Family and Friends,
It is with profound sadness but also a sense of solace and peace that we share the news of the passing of our dear mother Mary.
Mom was simply amazing - she fought courageously with incredible strength and resilience for the past several years before the slow but inevitable advance of Parkinson's Disease became too much to overcome. The last few weeks were particularly difficult and truly unfair to such a kind and loving person, as Mom was no longer able to move independently or communicate verbally. Yet somehow even when facing these and other impossible challenges she never wavered in her spirit, determination, gentleness and graciousness. She was so inspiring.
Mom lived a truly remarkable life - one that was significant, eventful, dynamic, sometimes turbulent, always benevolent, friendship-rich, and filled with many joys and successes. She ascended from humble beginnings to take the stage as a Rockette at Radio City Music Hall and as a halftime entertainer at the original Boston Garden, and later she became an award-winning Real Estate Broker and Developer. At one point in her prime she even flew on the Concorde to a Paris Fashion Week show! Throughout her life and its many ups & downs and twists & turns, Mom always stayed true to her genuinely wonderful self - spreading joy, kindness, companionship and thoughtfulness to everyone she ever met. She was also extraordinary at being a Mom and a Nana.
We are so appreciative for the many messages of support from family and friends during the past several months and are eternally grateful to several Makris family members and dear family friends who provided crucial contributions that allowed Mom to continue getting extraordinary care through the end of her life's journey. The BridgePoint and Sequoia Hospice Care Teams all loved mom and provided exceptional around-the-clock care. Her passing even brought several care givers to tears this week - a true indication of what an amazing person she was even in her final days. We are beyond thankful and feel truly blessed for the family support that helped make mom's final days comfortable, peaceful, and filled with care and love.
We are planning to have a future remembrance event for Mom and will share further information as soon as possible. We are also working through the details on the creation of a lasting memorial to Mom near our home. We are accepting small donations (in lieu of flowers) for the memorial via this GoFundMe page but ask that anyone who has previously donated to mom's care please do not contribute again to the memorial. You have already provided incredible support and comfort beyond our hopes and dreams. We thank you again.
With Love,
Greg and Chris Makris
