Remembering Mandi Haslett

Mandi is 33, her and Craig "Biff" Haslett  have been married for 9 years. Last year in February they gave birth to a little boy who was stillborn at 17 weeks. They have struggled with infertility for 10 years. That journey has been a trial in itself.

About 12 weeks ago Mandi went to the ER for abdominal pain & ended up with a bowel surgery where she had a piece of her small intestine removed.  She was in & out of the hospital for several weeks after fighting infections in her abdomen that were not getting better. She also began to have heavy vaginal bleeding & underwent another small surgery to stop the bleeding.

After 5 weeks she was transferred to Lutheran Hospital in Ft Wayne Indiana.  She has received a blood transfusion 9 times. She had been on antibiotics for weeks with no relief to her abdominal pain.

On Monday 3/4/2019 she was moved to the ICU. Her hemoglobin was life threateningly low. Her kidneys were shutting down from all the IV antibiotics & were functioning at less than 10%. It was decided that she would need a hysterectomy & to start dialysis ASAP!
Her dreams of ever being a mother were being crushed, but Mandi knew if she wanted to live she must do it.

During her emergency hysterectomy, they cut her open and her intestines where so inflamed, diseased & dying, the trauma surgeon removed 26 inches of small intestine. She had to face another surgery later that week to try & reconnect her bowels which had to be left in 3 pieces. After surgery she was placed on the ventilator and could only shake her head yes or no or squeeze our hands to communicate.

On Wednesday 3/6/2019, We found out that Mandi's pathology showed a rare Uterine Sarcoma. She was unaware of this diagnosis as she was sleeping.

On Friday  3/8/2019,  She went back for another bowel surgery to try and repair her bowels, It was unsuccessful and we also found out that the cancer was also in her abdomen and all in her bowels.  Also the rare form of cancer, Sarcoma.

On Sunday 3/10/19,  She went back to surgery for one last time to repair her bowels and close her incision which had been left open for a week now with a wound vac. They had to do a colostomy but were able to repair part of the bowels. The doctors let us know that her cancer had spread even more and it was very unlikely that she would survive this advanced Sarcoma Cancer.

On Tuesday 3/12/19 the ventilator was removed and Mandi was able to talk to us for short periods of time.

She had several family & Friends gather around to visit her. We had laughs, we cried, we prayed and sometimes we just sat and held hands while she slept.

On Wednesday 3/13/19, Mandi learned of her advanced cancer diagnosis .  What a tough day.

She was given all of her options and wanted to go HOME.

Early on Saturday morning 3/16/19, in the comfort of her own home, Mandi went home to be with the Lord. Just 10 short days after her cancer diagnosis. No one could have known how quickly our time with her would end, but one thing is for sure, we know she was LOVED by SO many of you.

Thank you for coming to visit her, praying for her, bringing food, stuffed animals, gift cards, photos, sending text messages, laughing with us, crying with us and LOVING HER.

The next week will be filled with hard times for friends and family who are missing her already. Please keep praying for them & please share this so we can give her the best celebration of her LIFE ever! She deserves it.

We love you always. I know that Baby Anderson was waiting for you and that you will spend eternity rocking him in glorious heaven.

Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Matthew 5:4

Please share her story and help to keep her memory alive.
We are going to celebrate her LIFE in the next few days and hope you will all be joining us!
