On July 25th, 2016 Thom Lovell and Karen Lovell (MacDonald) welcomed my handsome nephew Reid Thomas to the world.
This little sweetie has Trisomy 21 and a very large hole in his heart (AVSD). This was no surprise to his parents though, both diagnosis's came early in the pregnancy.
The plan was that Reid would have open heart surgery at 6 months old because at birth he would be too small.
Two days after Reid was born, he was transported to Victoria hospital in London.
He was diagnosed with another heart defect (PDA). The arch in his aorta is progressively narrowing which will eventually cause him to go into heart failure. Reid will then be transported to sick kids in Toronto for emergency surgery.
The hope is that after this surgery, Reid will be able to go home and recover and return to Toronto at 6 months old to have open heart surgery to fix the hole in his heart.
Unfortunately nothing is certain at this time and his parents are currently in London with him waiting while he is monitored 24/7.
I am creating this gofundme page to try to ease some of their stress during this very tough time. Since they will be in London indefinitely, there will be a huge financial burden on the family. With all the extra expenses of driving back and forth, child care for their other two children and the financial weight of not working, they are going to need some extra help.
