Redside Foundation: Grand Traverse

Hello,

"To guide others through the trials and splender, the wonders and fears of a wild place, a guide needs balance."

I, Nate Moody, and my friend Jesse Weber, are Idaho guides. Leading lives pursuing objectives beyond our passion of sharing the granduer of Idaho rivers with others.

We know that the lives of guides are passionate and are made important through guiding, but much of our lives are spent not guiding.

Graduate school, loving relationships, job searches, FOMO for other friends' adventures, the growng list of realities that comprise the mosaic of our lives enrich and provide perspective for our carreers in guiding.

However, there are challenges that are not always easy to face alone during the times that guides are not working. During the off season, it can be hard to find motivation to stay healthy and productive. 

To address specific challenges that Idaho guides face such as depression, alcoholism, and finding outlets of self improvement,  a non-profit called The Redside Foundation was created.

The Redside Foundation seeks to serve the entire communtiy of Idaho’s seasonal guides through education, training, and support services including the provision of confidential access to mental and physical healthcare and substance abuse counseling for guides in need.

As a symbol of solidarity and support for other Idaho guides in need we have decided to enter into a 40 mile ski mountainering race to raise awareness and financial support to sustain the mission of The Redside Foundation.
