Blakely Elizabeth is a five month old girl, daughter to Melanie Withers & Dennis Hopkins and little sister to McKenna, who was born on April 27th, 2016 with a congenital heart defect, Tetralogy of Fallot with Pulmonary Atresia, which reduces the amount of oxygen delivered to the body.  Within 24 hours of her birth Blakely was life flighted to UVA Children's Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia where she underwent her first open heart surgery to place a temporary shunt in her heart to give her heart time to grow before a more complete repair could be attempted. On September 21st, Blakely underwent her second open heart surgery earlier than expected at UVA to patch the hole in her heart, stretch her pulmonary arteries and replace the temporary shunt with a graft.
Since this second surgery Blakely has been in the PICU on a ventilator under sedation. She is currently battling pneumonia and sepsis. Melanie & Dennis have been by her side in Charlottesville through it all.
We are asking for help with travel expenses for the family while in Charlottesville and for the many trips between Wise and Charlottesville. We are also asking for help with household bills and other bills as they come due while Blakely recovers. Melanie & Dennis have been unable to work since September 20th; Melanie does not receive paid time off and Dennis's paid leave will run out soon. 5 year old McKenna has been staying in Wise with her grandmother who is on a fixed income.
