HELP LYLE & GISELA WITH THE COSTS OF RECTAL CANCER.
Donation protected
Hello. My name is Gisela Baird. My husband, Lyle Baird, a retired USW Local 1010 steelworker, was diagnosed with rectal cancer on October 20, 2023. This cancer was found in a routine screening colonosopy. We encourage everyone to have this procedure. The oncologist and colorectal surgeon both say it has been there for years. Today, 11-16-23, we met with the surgeon and oncologist to formulate a treatment plan. We meet meet with the radiation oncologist in the morning. 11-17-23. The port for infusion and blood tests will be implanted on the 22nd of November. He will first undergo 6 weeks of radiation combined with low dose chemo. This will be administered 5 days a week for those 6 weeks. As soon as that is complete, he starts 4 months of chemo infusion. After that another MRI and flexible sigmoidoscopy will be preformed to determine the next step which will either be more chemo or surgery. There is an 85% chance surgery will be necessary and due to the proximity of the tumor to the anal verge a colostomy is very likely. We have a long tough road ahead and because of this Lyle can't get a job. We recently lost all of our savings in a scam. We are trying to exist on our social security and Lyle's small pension. His life insurance premium has increased to around $1800 every quarter. The cancer has made it impossible to get a better rate and it is very necessary to have life insurance. We have always contributed to causes when requested and have even contributed recently. We now desperately need help! Anything that anyone can spare would be greatly appreciated. We thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide and ask for blessings on anyone who helps. We also ask for prayers for a good resolution for this cancer.
Thank you so much,
Gisela and Lyle Baird
