Emergency – Rebuilding Clarisse’s home after Mozambique’s floods
My name is Clarisse Machanguana, and I am one of the many people who has been severely affected by the devastating floods currently affecting Mozambique. Our home is in one of the worst-affected areas.
The Government of Mozambique has declared a national disaster as unprecedented flooding has displaced hundreds of thousands of people across the country. Hundreds of kms of roads remain flooded and destroyed, including the main national highway linking the rest of the country to the capital, Maputo, leaving vast areas inaccessible. This includes where we live.
As shown in the photos and videos shared here, our one storey house is submerged under approximately 1.6 metres of floodwater. Days later, the water still has not receded and the only way to reach our home is by local fishing boat.
Everything inside the house has been destroyed.
We have lost our beds, appliances, clothing, furniture, personal documents, and irreplaceable family photos and memories. Beyond the loss of belongings, the house itself has suffered structural damage due to prolonged submersion, requiring structural and electrical repairs before it can be made safe and livable again.
We are deeply grateful to be alive but we are now starting over again.
This fundraiser is to help us:
- Repair and rehabilitate the structure of our home
- Remove flood-damaged materials and debris
- Replace essential household items
- Create a living environment that is safe and habitable again
If you can help us — whether through a donation or by sharing this page — it would mean more than words can express. Your support will directly help us rebuild our home and begin the long process of recovery after this disaster.
Thank you for standing with us during this incredibly difficult time.
Much love and thanks, Clarisse, Luca and Ester.
