StMU Student-Athletes Support Kids In Crisis

Overview
Although the nature of the virus is non-discriminatory, the reality is that the COVID-19 pandemic will take the greatest toll on the poor and marginalized.
As a result of this, a month-long drive and emergency fund powered by St. Mary's Univ. Athletic community aims to support the nonprofit organization, Communities In Schools of San Antonio, in raising funds to help children and families of San Antonio that need our help now more than ever.
About Communities In Schools of San Antonio (CIS-SA)
As the nation’s largest and most effective organization dedicated to keeping kids in school and helping them succeed in life, Communities In Schools of San Antonio serves over 10,000 students in over 100 schools across San Antonio. Many of these families live on less than $25K/year and their situation becomes more threatened as furloughs and layoffs increase in frequency.
Amidst school closures and limited resources at home, students are experiencing disruptions to their education, limited access to technology needed for online learning, food insecurity for students who depend on school meals, financial challenges, increased anxiety, and more. History shows that low-income children and families already dealing with poverty and instabilty will be disproportionately impacted by this emergency, but CIS-SA offers services that will help combat the additional hardships that students and families are facing. As the sole-provider of evidence-based Integrated Student Support services in Bexar County, CIS-SA has strategically reconfigured their delivery model in response to the COVID-19 crisis to continue equitably bridging resources to at-risk students. CIS-SA site coordinators are connecting with every student and family on their caseload, discovering what their needs are as a result of the crisis and responding accordingly.

Our involvement
At St. Mary's University, we care deeply about the well-being of local children in our community. These rising needs provide a perfect place for us as a community to step in.
For children and families in need, this fund will provide financial support in purchasing items like food, hygiene products, and other daily essentials, some of which have not been provided by governmental relief funds. Your donation will allow CIS-SA to leverage their expertise and resources to serve thousands of families in need, deliver essential resources, provide emotional support to students dealing with mental health concerns, and prepare for the coming months to ensure that additional, and possibly unforeseeable, needs are met.

This fundraiser has been approved by the NCAA and the St. Mary's University Athletics Compliance Staff.
