Ralphie Is A Dog
Donation protected
Ralphie May Murphy is a 5 year old Great Dane/Black Lab mix who thinks he's human and thinks he can talk. Obviously he's a dog and everyone has to remind him he's a dog. But to Shaun and I he is more than that, he is our loving big baby boy that we will do anything for.
Ralphie is a spoiled bratt even though he whines like he has the worst life ever (Our dog is emo). He loves to play non stop, and so when I saw that he started limping after play or any type of exercise and barely using his back leg I got really sad for him and knew we needed to get this fixed so he can be a happy pup playing again.
We don't know exactly how he injured himself, it could have been anything since he's CRAZY but when we went to our vet (East Longmeadow Animal Hospital, MA-which is 2 hours away because they have always been good to us and know Ralph the way we know him) they said he had torn his ACL most likely and referred us to a specialist (Veterinary Emergency & Specialist Animal Hospital in South Deerfield, MA) they had said the same thing-Cruciate Ligament Tear which broke our heart knowing things won't be the same but we knew we had to do something so Ralphie wasn't in pain anymore.
Ralphie has been on pain killers twice a day since the spring once we noticed his lameness. Yeah it helps but we still can't have him play much. He would run and swim for hours before now I have to limit him to 10-20mins before he can barely walk. 20 mins is not enough for him, he's a maniac if he doesn't get all of his energy out, and let me tell you there is a ton of energy in him.
So for Ralphie to be pain free and to play happily ever after, we have decided to get the TPLO surgery that will cost us about $5,000 because he's a big boy. That doesn't include the pain meds we've been giving him, the medicine after the surgery, and the check ups during recovery.
We have had amazing friends and family giving us the best support to help us to make the decision and I know we will continue to get the love during our long recovery process. Thank you to all of you who have helped us out already, we greatly appreciate it. Especially Ralphie!
Love always,
Sasha, Shaun, and Ralphie May
