Raccolta fondi per l'operazione di Marilina

Non ho ancora capito come sia possibile che un incidente così stupido possa cambiare in maniera così drastica la vita di una persona.
La vita di Marilina per l’esattezza, la vita di una persona che per me è come una sorella.

Un incidente molto stupido due anni fa ha fatto in modo che l’astragalo del suo piede destro si frantumasse in tanti pezzettini. L’astragalo è un osso piccolissimo che riesce a dare mobilità alla caviglia.

L’astragalo permette di fare cose che noi diamo per scontato; io non sapevo nemmeno che ci fosse un astragalo nelle mie caviglie! Eppure, se riesco a correre, a camminare in salita e a ballare (seppur malissimo) il merito è proprio di quest’osso che porta un nome esotico.

Bene, da due anni la diagnosi di Marilina è stata sempre la stessa, fredda e spietata: artrodesi. Un altro nome esotico che indica un’operazione che implica il blocco della caviglia.  Per sempre.

Marilina ha la testa dura, per questo ci vogliamo bene, e incontra tanti medici che le rispondono sempre allo stesso modo: blocco della caviglia.

Questo fino a qualche mese fa, quando viene a sapere che al Rizzoli di Bologna un’equipe di ortopedici e ingegneri hanno ridato la possibilità di camminare ad una persona che da dieci anni non riusciva più a farlo.

E allora Marilina e la sua testa dura chiedono un appuntamento e la risposta che riceve è diversa: PROTESI.

Abbiamo pianto a 600 chilometri di distanza e poi riso perché come si fa a ridere per la parola protesi? In quel momento mi è sembrata la parola più bella del mondo!

Quello che sappiamo adesso è che per sottoporsi a questa operazione l’attesa è di un anno e mezzo, se il servizio è gestito dalla sanità pubblica. Privatamente però questa operazione potrebbe essere fatta nei prossimi mesi. Questo implicherebbe un costo che al momento Marilina non riesce ad affrontare: l’operazione costa 12.000 euro.

Allora, abbiamo pensato di chiamare a raccolta tutte le persone che vogliono bene a Marilina e che sono stati testimoni del cammino accidentato che ha percorso negli ultimi anni per chiedere un sostegno e consentirle di sottoporsi a questa operazione prima possibile.
Per ogni giorno che passa senza intervento chirurgico Marilina è costretta a camminare con le stampelle e lo squilibrio nella sua camminata stanno mettendo sotto stress la sua anca e la sua colonna vertebrale.

Vi chiedo di supportare questo progetto facendo una donazione.
Non importa quanto, la cosa importante è riuscire a coprire almeno la metà del costo dell’operazione.

I still do not understand how a stupid accident can change a person’s life so drastically. Marilina’s life to be specifically, the life of a person who has been like a sister to me.
A stupid bouldering accident two years ago caused Marilina’s right ankle’s astragalus bone exploded into pieces.
The astragalus is a small bone that has the important function of giving the ankle its mobility. It allows us to do things we often take for granted. I didn’t even know I had an astragalus bone in my ankle!

The fact I am able to run, walk upwards and dance (awfully) is all due to this element with such an exotic name.
Well, since this incident happened over two years ago, Marilina’s clinical diagnoses have been the same, cold and drastic: An Arthrodesis (also referred to as bone-fusion).

Yet another exotic name for a procedure which will block the ankle and its degrees of freedom… forever, without return.

Marilina is a tough nut to crack, that’s why we are such good friends, and she consulted a wide range of medical doctors who responded with the same diagnosis: blocking the ankle.

That was until a few months ago, when she discovered that at the Rizzoli di Bologna hospital, a team of orthopedic doctors and engineers gave a person the possibility to walk again after not being able for 10 years.

Marilina and her tough character found a new answer after a visit to these doctors: PROSTHETICS!

Separated by 600 kilometers, we cried and then laughed because again, who would laugh at the word “prosthetics”? At that moment, it was the most beautiful word in the world.

What we now know is that in order to have this surgery within the public healthcare system, there is a cue of at least one and a half years. As a private client, this surgery can be done in a few months once scheduled. This second options come with a cost that Marilina cannot bear with on her own: 12.000 euros.

For this, we are calling for a fund-raising campaign amongst the people who know and love Marilina and have seen the rough path she has travelled in the past years. We do this in order to have her undergo this surgery as soon as possible. Every day that passes in which Marilina does not does this surgery, she is charging stress to her hip and spine due to the unbalance in her steps with the crutches she uses.

I ask you to support this enterprise by performing a donation. It does not matter how much, what matters is that she is able to cover at least half the costs associated with the intervention.
