In memory of Eleazar Ollada

On May 26 at 9:14 AM, we received the heartbreaking news that my dad, Eleazar Ollada, passed away in the hospital.

After a tireless fight in and out of the hospital for the last year, my dad’s condition worsened in the last couple of weeks leading up to his death. We were so afraid to bring him to emergency with the grim realization we wouldn’t be able to visit him due to COVID restrictions; but, knew it was the right decision. The week and a half of his hospitalization was unbearable, filled with restless nights, a dozen phone calls bothering the hospital staff, and even more phone calls and FaceTimes. Me, my two sisters, and mother, watched him weap out of fear and lonesomeness, then back to solace at the end of each call. It was just 10 days of him being in the ICU when we received that dreaded phone call.

My dad was many things, but above all, a fighter. He suffered from congenital heart disease as well as a number of health conditions. But even throughout his time in and out of the hospital, he always assured us that he was okay. It was frustrating at the moment. We would scold him and say, “DADDY!! Just tell the doctor you don’t feel good!” In hindsight, I can admire my father’s insistence that he was “okay”-- because he just always wanted to help out. My dad wore many hats, and was loved and admired by many. He was a loving husband to my mom, a father-figure to my cousin, a supportive brother, a diligent worker, a popular coworker, an incredibly helpful neighbor, and the list continues. They even used to call him “Mr. Smiley” when he worked at Home Depot.

Words cannot describe the impact of this loss, but we cannot deny just how grateful we are to have had in our lives. My family and I would be so grateful for donations, especially during these difficult times. The financial stability of my family has been negatively impacted due to COVID, so any little bit will help with arranging the funeral services (which I had no idea was SO costly).

Thank you for all of the love sent our way. If words cannot describe the sadness we feel, they also cannot describe the gratitude we have, too. Your support is insurmountable.

Love,

Darlene
