Robotic Girls Go Green go to World

Tax deductible
Help send the World Robot Olympiad USA Robotics Champions to the World Championships in New Delhi, India!

This is the story of two girls, Kaiya Hollister, 11 years old, and Shruti Panse, 12 years old, and they are Robotic Girls Go Green aka RG Cubed.  Kaiya and Shruti
have a great interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) and found their love for robotics competition this Summer.  After meeting for the first time in June, 2016 Kaiya and Shruti  became friends right away. They are a perfect match of mechanical engineering aptitude and superb programming skills. That same day they registered for the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) competition as an Elementary team in the Open Category for the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) with the team name, RG Cubed, Robotic Girls Go Green.

Four months later, they have won First Place in the World Robot Olympiad USA National Championships and hence have qualified to go to the World Robot Olympiad Championships in New Delhi, India November 25, 2016 to November 27, 2016.

The World Robot Olympiad is a global LEGO Robotics competition. It is an event that brings young people from all over the world together. This year over 50 countries with nearly 20,000 teams are participating in this event. Each participating country has its own competition and the best teams are invited to compete at the World Robot Olympiad World Championships in New Delhi, India. http://www.wroboto.org/wro2016

Over 6 billion people live on planet Earth today, generating an estimated 1.9 billion tons of domestic, industrial, medical, electronic, radioactive, toxic and hazardous waste every year. Experts believe that the waste generated will double by 2025. That is in just 10 years from now!

Can you believe that 30% of the waste generated remains uncollected? And that a large part of the remaining 70% is dumped in oceans, landfills and dumpsites where it is polluting and clogging our ecosystem, causing numerous health and environmental challenges as only 19% is recycled?

This year students are expected to come up with innovative solutions using robotics technology to Rap the Scrap i.e. to reduce, manage and recycle waste!
Teams are required to think of a real world problem related to the theme and come out with an innovative solution for the same. The research and projects should be well supported with all kinds of displays/prototypes/models/videos and presented in their 2m by 2m booth provided at the regional and world championship.

Kaiya and Shruti have done a lot of research and with the help of team planning meetings with Chasewood Learning, Waste Management and Symbol Training Institute and many, many late nights of hard work to have come up with a fantastic and innovative robotic solution to our world's recycling problem. Kaiya and Shruti have come up with a prototype robot and software program which won First Place at the WRO National Championship.

Kaiya and Shruti are now in the process of phase two of meetings with Chasewood Learning, Waste Management and Symbol Training Institute to improve upon the intitial robotic design and software program as they prepare to compete on the world stage, representing the United States, in New Delhi, India.

Why $5,000?

The money will be used for travel expenses to send 4 people: team members, parents and coaches to New Dehli, India. So far all expenses have been out of pocket by parents and coaches.

Travel Estimates
4 coach seat tickets from Chicago to India: $4000
2 night stay - 3 basic rooms: $700
Meals, ground transportation and incidentals: $300

Why donate?
We are a passionate team wanting to accept the invite to go to New Delhi, India and represent the USA but funding this type of effort can be difficult. We are putting in the time, sweat and less than parent approved eating habits to the day we leave. Any donation will help relieve the burden on our team and is greatly appreciated. We will keep you updated on our results.

If we exceed our goal, any additional funds will be reinvested as continued support for the girls for future competitions as they hope to continue on to bigger adventures in robotics.

If we miss our goal, The Wong Foundation will work hard as their sole sponsor to source the funds needed to fill the financial gap.
