Blessings in a Backpack began in 2008 with a goal of providing weekend nutrition to hungry children. This national organization now serves 75,000 school children at 774 schools in 44 U.S states and Washington DC this year.
Riverside Elementary started Blessings in a Backpack in 2011, with enough funding to feed 20 students. With over 50% of our students qualifying for free and reduced meals, our need has grown significantly over the past 4 years.
With the help of student Difference Makers, we now pack up 100 bags of food to send home on Fridays to Riverside Elementary students who may not have enough for the weekend.
This amazing program is solely funded through donations from generous members of our community. $80 (or $2.10 per week) provides one student food for the weekend for an entire school year. Any amount donated can make a huge difference!
Please consider donating to Riverside Elementary’s Blessings in a Backpack program this holiday season. You will be giving a local child the gift of nutrition that will last the entire school year!
