North to Alaska!

Donation protected
Since time began, Teenagers have found ways to push the limits, and cause heartburn and anxiety for their parents. For Team Juvenile Delinquents, their method is quite novel. They want to go to Alaska. By boat. With no parents around to muck things up. They want to compete in the Race to Alaska, a 750 mile race from Port Townsend, WA to Ketchikan, Alaska -- a race that half of the vetted in mariners don't even finish. The rules of the race are simple: no motors, no support. Through some of the roughest, wildest waters on the West Coast. ... teenage rebellion was never any cooler than this.

Once the idea sprouted wings, the team -- a combined age of 68 years -- Dagny Kruger, Bryce Lutz, Else Ranker and Willow Gray plotted the next steps. First, they needed a boat. Being teenagers, their funds were limited. Putting in their own savings and asking friends and family, they were able to collect enough to buy a diamond in the rough: a 1993 Carrera 290, SV 'Loose Cannon' from Astoria and skipped school for a day to help bring her north to Anacortes, WA.

Now, they need to take their 29 feet of hot-rod sailboat and get her race-ready so they can get her in the water and keep training. The team is doing the work they can, but needs help to hire in some professional expertise to make sure the boat is safe and ready.
