WE NEED FUNDING BY OCTOBER 17th!

This publication has been complete and waiting to be produced for 3 years.

RECLAMATION: Queering Appalachia's Visual Memory is an anthology of 30+ Queer Appalachian photographers at various points in their careers from all across Appalachia. This publication is meant to be an accessible anthology of contemporary photo makers and tries to lean away from being overly academic or have niche jargon.

Appalachia has been represented in a singular way for most of its greater history. One thinks of poverty, missing teeth, and black and white photography. Those of us who grew up in Appalachia or call it home now, know that this type of photographic representation is reductive and not representative of our dynamic experience as Appalachians.

Creative communities across Appalachia are doing this same work. Setting out to create materials and publications that match our lived reality not just what other people think the region is like.

Donors will be listed and thanked in the publication (if your name is visible on GFM.) We can' t make art without community!

This publication has been complete and waiting to be pushed into production for 3 years. We have sought out grants from various institutions and have even attempted to solicit support from private donors but no such luck. We need to raise $15,000 to send this book into production at University of Kentucky Press. This is the contracted amount I am obligated to provide as editor.

Once we hit our mark of $15,000 the book will release roughly 1 year later! I signed the contract for this publication in 2021 and would be thrilled for it to make its way into the world in 2026, 5 years later.
