ABOUT US

The Syro-Malabar Eastern Catholic Church is a Major Archiepiscopal Church in full communion with the Bishop of Rome, the Pope. It traces its origins to St Thomas, the Apostle, who evangelised India in the 1st century. The Syro-Malabar Church follows the East Syrian liturgical tradition and is one of the 23 sui iuris (self-governed) Eastern Catholic Churches.

St John Vianney Catholic Church, Blackburn, holds a special place in the hearts of the Syro-Malabar community and has been a sanctuary of faith, unity, and solace for decades.

Our Goal

As a Catholic community, our aim is to preserve the Catholic faith in Blackburn by following the rich East Syrian liturgical tradition, thereby enabling future generations to learn them with ease so that the Eastern liturgical, theological, spiritual, discipline, and cultural traditions can be practised. The Catholic Diocese of Salford has kindly agreed to sell St John Vianney Church to us so as to achieve this goal.

In spite of the generous contributions from our parishioners, we learn that an additional £50,000 needs to be raised and hence we are embarking on a campaign to raise the amount in the next 6 months, starting from June 2025. If contributions exceed our set goal, we will use the surplus amount towards the same cause and suspend the campaign immediately.
