Psyched the Serial Rapist: Testimony for All of Us

Donation protected
It goes without saying that, after one survives abduction, rapes, assault with a deadly weapon and the threat of one’s imminent murder, their life changes forever. However, these horrors were endured and triumphed over.

In my book "Victim, a testimony," I tell the story of my abduction and how I psychologically over-powered the predator and escaped. I also put that serial rapist away for life! But this is only the beginning. This story of the violence I personally survived is not just about me, it is about all of us.

Ever since that fateful abduction, the primary focus of my art and writing has been exploitation and violence. Extending from sexual violence that is perpetrated upon women and children, abusive entitlement affects all of our relationships and the way we perceive the world.  My main interest, in the end, is the absolute opposite of violence and to help establish a greater justice for all living creatures — including the earth.

I am about two-thirds finished writing "Victim, a testimony."  My friends recommended that we have a Go Fund Me to raise some money so that I can dedicate a solid three months to finishing it. This is the most important creative and revolutionary project of my life and I will be so grateful for any and all support.

The term ‘victim’ is very controversial. In a world that values competition and conquest and is built upon exploitation, a victim is seen as defeated, and the word denotes something to be ashamed of. My book will upend that thinking and show how not forgetting victimization is necessary for any solid resistance and possible transformation in how, as a society, we perceive and enact power.

Here is a passage from "Victim, a testimony" where I tell the story of coming to the awareness that I needed to write this book:

"There was a guy I knew once who had a collection of books about serial killers. Some of them were biographies and there were a couple of autobiographies. I know the names of the serial killers celebrated in these books. Unfortunately, most people do. So I am not going to mention them again and add to their twisted notoriety.

“How can you read such terrible books?” I asked, horrified. “Books that sensationalize evil? Why should someone who has murdered be even allowed to tell their story and how can it actually be published and the pain continued?”

Even though I asked the question as though it was the greatest mystery I had ever come across, I knew the answer: it was all about the profitability of sensationalism and the guarantee that people like him would buy them; it was all about the continued victimization of the victim; it was all about the re-perpetuation of power abuse. But I asked the questions anyway. And, even though I knew the answer, the mystery remains.

“Serial killers are interesting,” he responded nonchalantly. “Why should I be interested in victims? Victims are boring.”

I certainly didn’t expect that response! I left and never went back to his house. I didn’t speak to him again except for a token “Hey” if I passed him on the street.

“I am a victim,” I thought. “And I am certainly not boring.”

I knew at that moment that this book had to be written someday. When I was ready."

Thanks so much for any and all support be it donating, sharing, or commenting on posts to keep my campaign active!

Best, Karen.
