Provide Ukrainian kids with Emergency needs

YOUR HELP IS URGENTLY NEEDED TO SAVE LIVES

When you think about the children who have lost limbs, homes, and in many cases their lives because of the war happening right now in Ukraine, imagine if your child was suffering in pain, without food, warm clothes, or medical care. Look at your child or a child in your life and imagine if this was happening to them. This is why we created Global Ukraine Initiative - so no child goes without help when there aren't enough adult shoulders available.

With so many volunteers working individually and other organizations working with limitations of one area of focus, we decided to pull volunteers together to create The Global Ukraine Initiative. Founded in Atlanta, Georgia, as a non-profit, our GUI consists of people from all walks of life who have volunteered their time and personal resources to help with relief efforts directly in Ukraine. Our primary goal is to help as many children as possible through medical care and food supplies while also providing clothing for those affected by this tragedy- especially cold-weather clothing!

Russia continues massive attacks on Ukraine.

So many, including women and children, do not have the resources to flee to safer areas, and are in need of emergency assistance.

In the early stages of the war, among the many stories we began to hear, one in particular, grabbed our attention. Having lost her mother when she was only two weeks old, Kira Obedinsky was only 12 years old when she lost her father and became an orphan. She’d been sheltering with her dad Evgeny, Anya, his partner, and her two children in the basement of a neighbor’s house in Mariupol when the building was hit directly by a Russian attack. Dragged from the rubble by rescuers, Kira and the others were taken to the hospital, but Evgeny did not survive.

In the ensuing chaos, Kira ended up in the hands of Russian soldiers who took her to Donetsk’s regional hospital in a separatist-controlled part of the Donbas region. Frightened, alone, and surrounded by Russian soldiers, she received treatment for shrapnel wounds to her face and body. As she struggled with not knowing who to trust or what obstacles she would face daily as she recovered, Russian state television used her treatment to send a false message to Russian citizens that Ukrainians were being treated well.

Thankfully, with lots of work, Kira found hope when she was reunited with her only remaining family member, her grandfather Alexsandr, and returned to Kyiv to continue her healing. Unfortunately, not all of the stories have a hopeful ending. So many Ukrainian children have no one to turn to.

The crisis in Ukraine has created a new humanitarian crisis that requires an immediate response. Russia continues its attacks on civilian targets while launching strikes against infrastructure targets such as power lines that lead to hospitals, emergency facilities, and orphanages, leaving many with no electricity. This action sends millions more Ukrainians into cold darkness, making it even more difficult for parents and caretakers to keep their children from sickness or discomfort--especially when you're already struggling just to get food on the table!

We are launching this emergency fundraising drive so supplies can be distributed there as quickly as possible because no one should face these hardships alone.

Ukrainian children, starting with orphans, are being kidnapped and taken to Russia to be prisoned in "Re-education" camps. At last count, over 16,000 children have been illegally taken. The lack of resources to flee to safer countries have many looking for alternate places for safety. These families, many like Kira and Alexandr, survive in shelters and small flats because most of the utilities have been damaged during the conflict, and gas for heating is frequently not accessible in these locations. The majority of families have little or no employment money, and many mothers are caring for their children alone while their husbands are serving at war, so purchasing something brand new is not an option for them.

We can all agree that being hopeless is a terrible place to be. We're on a mission to bring hope and happiness into the lives of Ukraine’s most vulnerable children in this most challenging time. Though we have already assisted so many Ukrainians in need, we are working hard to quickly expand the scope of our support. However, many children are still in dire need of assistance.

Just as with our team of volunteers, these organizations are working on the front line to provide emergency assistance, but they are faced with ever-changing circumstances daily. These challenges include not enough food for the number of people in need, access to food and supplies, and obtaining volunteers to safely distribute the food and supplies. These are areas that we can immediately impact by working together.

Your help is urgently needed and appreciated. If you are in a position to take action, please make a donation today. 100% of every donation, no matter how big or small will go towards meeting the needs of orphaned and injured kids, widows, and families in Ukraine with emergency needs. It also lets them know that the world hasn't forgotten them.

We believe in full transparency and want you to know, to see where your donations are going in action. We will post updates both here and on our website, as well as work with media outlets to show your donations in action. Your generosity helps save a life.
