The Corsair is more than a racing shell — it is a living piece of Northeastern University rowing history. Built in Italy in the 1960s by the legendary Donoratico boatworks and designer Lido Filippi, the Corsair carried Northeastern crews through one of the most successful eras in the program’s history. In just five seasons, the boat won six major medals at the Eastern Sprints and IRA Championships, including two Eastern Sprints gold medals in 1972 and 1973. For many alumni, the Corsair represents the dedication, teamwork, and pride that defined their years on the river.

Today, time and storage damage have left the Corsair in need of a full restoration, but a group of Northeastern rowing alumni is committed to bringing this historic shell back to life. Working with the Finger Lakes Boating Museum, volunteers will restore the boat to its original beauty so future generations can see, touch, and even row a true wooden racing shell from rowing’s golden era. This project is about preserving heritage, reconnecting alumni, and honoring the legacy of Northeastern rowing for decades to come. Donations will help fund materials, restoration work, transportation, and long-term preservation of this remarkable piece of rowing history.

Note that at this time, Project Corsair is NOT a 501c3 charitable organization and contributions are NOT tax deductible.
