Autum was just 3 days old when her Mom, Ellie Holbrook was feeding her and noticed there was no activity coming from Autumn. They tried startling her and then quickly realized she wasn't breathing. Zac Holbrook, Autumn's Dad, started CPR immediately. CPR was administered until the medical team arrived . They successfully got Autumn to breath again but she started having seizures. She was transported to a local hospital and later flown to Children's Hospital in Columbus not knowing if she would make it through the flight . After a few days in Children's Hospital, the Doctor's told Zac and Ellie that she had quit breathing for so long that she had brain damage in several parts of her brain . After a few weeks in the hospital Ellie posted this on December 17th .
Yesterday was a very difficult time for our family .
Doctors in-care conference revealed that our options are very limited . We can allow them to perform a tracheostomy which would require her to be placed back on a ventilator most likely permanently . This would require us to turn her nursery into a hospital room requiring 24 hours care for the rest of her life ,being faced with many infections and lots of hospital stays throughout her life , or we could make her as comfortable as possible and let her go .
Doctor's also gave us the option of second opinion before making any choices .
Autumn will soon be traveling to Cincinnati Children's Hospital for a second opinion with a Doctor that specializes in brain injuries . He will re-evaluate Autumn and Ellie and Zac will be faced with some very tough decisions in the future .
Zac and Ellie will have a lot of medical bills , traveling expenses and every day care for their baby girl . Ellie is on maternity leave but funds will soon run out while Zac has had to return to work when possible .
I am a co-worker of Ellie's and with her permission I have created this account for Autumn . Please donate and share this post to help us spread the word to help this wonderful family .
Thank you for all of your support!
