On the evening of Wednesday April 15th, Donna was taken to the Emergency Room by ambulance after passing out at home with low blood pressure. Two days later it was determined that she would require emergency abdominal surgery in order to save her life. During the surgery it was discovered that Donna had cancer and a tumor was removed that had been blocking blood flow to her internal organs causing them to die off and poison her system. She was then put on a ventilator for several days. Just days later she took a bad turn and required a second abdominal surgery to remove yet more infected tissue. Over the course of 6 weeks she has struggled in the ICU and was put on a ventilator 3 separate times.
This last month and a 1/2 has put a huge strain on Donna and Craig's financial situation and they already have medical and ambulance bills coming in. They are required to pay for home nursing visits and the rental fees for all of the medical equipment to properly care for her. Donna's sister is traveling from Oregon to help with her care at home but for now we don't know exactly what that will entail or what the future will hold. Everyone is praying for the best during her rehabilitation however Donna is so weak that it is hard for her to breathe correctly because she has fluid in her lungs and collecting around organs. Right now her nutrition is lacking due to her inability to eat well and I would like to see her husband and sister be able to focus on her care without the added burden of finances. It is the families prayer that her health will all turn around when she comes home and that the future will begin to look better.
In the meantime, to help offset some of the stress on the family and Craig especially as her primary care giver I as a family friend am setting up this GoFundMe page in the hope that it will allow any family and friends who want to help have a central place to donate. Many friends and family have approached Craig and Kristi regarding how they can help and this has become a bit tricky because of the pandemic. It is imperative to limit visitors to their home and not accept any food or other items for now to insure her environment stays as sterile as possible. It is a very difficult decision to limit visitors but until they feel she is safe from germs and further infections it is necessary.
If you feel led to help in any way it would be a huge blessing to the family to please consider donating any amount at all to help them during this very trying time. If you are financially unable to contribute, this is completely understandable and I welcome messages of encouragement that I am happy to pass on and please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.
God Bless, Zoe
