Chef Lorna Lopez is facing a long and complex medical recovery after being electrocuted by a faulty stove while preparing for the Grand Opening of her new Community Kitchen and Farmers Market, Yellow Bodega. The high-voltage electric shock caused a sudden, massive surge of abnormal electrical activity in her brain, leading to convulsions, seizures, and potential long-term neurological issues. This has created a need for extensive hospital care, specialist treatment, and long-term rehabilitation, including neurological recovery, physical therapy, and occupational therapy.
Chef Lopez is well known in the Jacksonville community as That Lemonade Lady, a vendor at popups, community events, and farmers markets. She relocated from New York during the pandemic and has been a staple at the Beach Blvd Flea Market for the past five years, always offering samples of her famous lemonade and serving cold-pressed juice and New York street food. Unfortunately, Chef Lopez does not have sufficient insurance to cover her mounting medical costs. Her only financial support came from her businesses, which she has had to close—including That Lemonade at Beach Blvd Flea Market, Manufacturing on Moncrief Rd., and The Yellow Bodega in Springfield. As a small business owner and entrepreneur, all of her resources went into building her businesses, leaving her family with limited savings and now overwhelming hospital bills.
Chef Lopez's daughter and business partner, Jaila, has been incredibly strong, caring for her mother while also raising her 15-year-old brother. The family is facing unimaginable emotional and financial distress. Our community has the ability to make a real difference in Chef Lopez’s care and recovery. No amount is too small, and every contribution is deeply appreciated. If you cannot donate, please share this fundraiser so it can reach others who may be able to help. Please keep the Lopez family in your prayers as they navigate this difficult time. Thank you for your kindness, compassion, and prayers. Your support means more than you can imagine. With love, The Lopez Family.
