What you are looking at is the total
devistation caused by fire from a severe thunderstorm.
Edward & Heather Powell of Townsend, DE lost everything when a large pine tree behind the home caught fire and quickly spread to a shed and the house on June 16, 2016
Ed was asleep in a back bedroom along with his 1 year old son. Heather happened to go into the kitchen just after 2am & saw the flames. She realized the house was on fire. Her yelling woke Ed who grabbed his son, getting out just in time. Other family members the called the fire department. Both Ed & Heather tried to save something..anything, but the fire was too hot and spreading too fast, and, as a result, Ed did get burned on his right elbow. The home and it's entire contents was reduced to char & rubble in less than 12 minutes..before the fire department arrived.
Nothing is left, the loss is great.
The saying, "all I have left is the clothes on my back" is fitting for this family now.
The Powell family has been in Townsend for generations. Edward owns Powell Farms Tree
Service. His physically handicapped wife, Heather, handles the estimates, paperwork & bookkeeping for the business. They work hard, make hard decisions to make ends meet, but have little extras. Sadly, they had no homeowners insurance.
They have been able to borrow a small old camper, which leaks when it rains, but they are grateful.
When they talk about the fire & it's aftermath, it is evident that what matters most is that they are all okay.
My husband & I live only a mile from the Powell home. We have used this dependable, consciencious couple to trim & remove trees & brush from around the pond at our home for the past several years now.
When we drove by the Powell home the morning of the fire, our reaction was immediate. We all have been watching the news of the devistation from the fires & floods impacting so many around the country & wished we could help.
Well, here is a local family, parents and 3 children enduring the same misery and it is certainly in our power to be of help.
Their needs are immediate..food..clothing..household items..toiletries..baby items...
Some neighbors have given sheets, towels, pillows, paper products...And the family can't thank them enough.
With no backup financial resources, these needs are many and ongoing.
Ed is reaching out & working, but the jobs are small and the dollars have so many places to go right now.
Going forward, Ed & Heather would like to be able to stay on the land.. rebuild in time, but the focus is on the present, the basics & getting back on their feet.
Please donate whatever you can to help this family & please do it soon. I cannot stress enough how immediate the situation is and will be without our kind support.
Thank You, from the bottom of our Hearts,
