$10,000 covers tuition for one year
$5,000 covers housing and utilities for a semester
$2,500 funds college prerequisite courses
$1,000 covers books and study materials
$500 buys a laptop
$250 covers meals for one month while in school
$100 buys supplies for a semester
$50 covers transportation to and from campus
We currently turn to GoFundMe during 2021 as the Foundation's fundraiser instead of our annual Gala and national events. The proceeds from GoFundMe provide resources for many talented young women and girls across the country who need support. Through the Scholarship Program, the Foundation has sponsored 25 graduates. Many of these young women leverage their degrees to find careers in STEM-related areas, law, medicine, media, the public sector, and other fields. $25,000 ultimately sponsors a scholar for a year
We hope you can join us in 2021 with the Foundation's all-important work and the impact they are making on the lives of young women and girls who need resources that will help them overcome unexpected barriers to success.
Contributors to the PowHERful Foundation have been instrumental in expanding its Scholar Program, Enrichment Conferences, and other initiatives that help advance the PowHERful Foundation's mission of getting young women to, and through, college. The Foundation has been able to assist ambitious young women around the country who may not otherwise have the opportunity to pursue their educational and life goals. These women, in return, are lending their time and resources to their communities and to young women and girls who have aspirations that they need help to reach. The circle of support they have been able to create is inspiring!
2018 - 2019, PowHERful Enrichment Conferences held ten summits that guided an additional 5,000 young women on their path through college and into the workforce.
Co-founder/board chairperson of The PowHERful Foundation, Soledad O'Brien is an award-winning journalist, documentarian, news anchor, and producer. Soledad has spent her career championing marginalized communities' stories and has been the recipient of three Emmy awards, the George Foster Peabody Award, and the Alfred I. DuPont Award for her reporting work.
Soledad O'Brien Productions is a multi-platform media production and distribution company dedicated to uncovering stories on the divisive issues of race, class, wealth, poverty, and opportunity through personal narratives.
