Support Myles's Journey to Recovery
Myles is a bright, brave, and joyful 7-year-old who loves his family, church, school, video games, and has a deep passion for baseball. He shares a special bond with his older brother, Maeson, and his devoted mom, Myisha. Kind, respectful, and full of determination, Myles approaches life with heart and courage — always ready to compete and never backing down from a challenge.

But in March, Myles and his family were faced with a devastating medical emergency.

Myisha experienced every parent’s worst nightmare when Myles suddenly became unresponsive and had to be rushed by ambulance to the nearest hospital where doctors discovered bleeding in his brain. He was placed on a ventilator and airlifted to Comer Children’s Hospital in Chicago. Neurologists found that Myles had suffered a ruptured arteriovenous malformation (AVM), which caused a stroke in his brain.

After 16 days in intensive medical care at Comers that included an 8-hour brain surgery, Myles was cleared to begin rehabilitation at Shirley Ryan Ability Lab.

With incredible strength and perseverance, Myles began occupational, physical, and speech therapies to re-learn how to do everyday things like walking, dressing himself, and expressing his thoughts. He faced each challenge like he does baseball- with hope, grit, and the belief that he has what it takes to get on base and make it home. His hospital room door even had a sign that read “Positive Vibes Only.”

After 6 weeks at Shirley Ryan, Myles made it home. But his recovery is far from over and he continues to attend outpatient therapy. Some of his goals include playing baseball with his team, returning to school with his friends, and walking in church without a cane.

Throughout this entire ordeal, Myisha never left Myles's side, sleeping in the hospital for 2+months. She held on to her faith in God for strength and healing. Her greatest joy was watching Myles swing a bat again for the first time on Mother’s Day — hitting pitches from Maeson and Darnell. Myles’s hope and resilience feeds her own.

You may see Myles at the Flossmoor Baseball fields cheering on Maeson. He wants people (kids and adults alike) to know the following:
  • Positive Vibes Only.
  • Don’t stare or pity him — just say hello, ask questions if you have them.
  • Fist bumps and high fives are welcome — but please don’t touch his head.
  • He can walk, but uneven surfaces like grass are tough — so he often uses his wheelchair.
  • His brain works extra hard to do everyday things —sometimes he needs breaks.
Myles is making incredible progress, but there are still many challenges ahead. Insurance helps with much of his care — but not everything he needs. And because Myisha continues to devote herself full-time to Myles’s recovery, their financial resources are stretched thin.

We’re asking for your support — through donations and prayers — to help Myles keep going. Every contribution makes a difference in his recovery and helps lift some of the burden from this incredible family so they can focus on Myles’s recovery.

From the bottom of their hearts, Myles, Myisha, and Maeson thank you for positive vibes and for being part of his healing journey.
