Poe Needs Your Help: Eye Cancer Surgery
Donation protected
Hey Everyone,
One week after we had to say goodbye to our other Dog, Zuko due to cancer… Poe was diagnosed with a mass behind his right eye.
After extensive testing, specialist visits and CT scans, it came back as a cancerous tumor.
Needless to say, we were floored, heartbroken, and overwhelmed with the diagnosis.
I’ve been in a state of fight or flight trying to figure out how to save my best friend.
The vets findings were that, this tumor, although cancerous, hadn’t spread anywhere else in his body. It was, and is, in fact pushing his eye ball out of his head. He has no other symptoms than the obviously large tumor that could eventually spread to lymph, or lungs, as well as continue to push his eyeball out, blinding him in that one eye and giving him ulcers creating infections and pain.
Our little dude has been sweet, happy, and hungry which are all great signs that the cancer hasn’t metastasized. This was backed up by the CT, his great bill of health and his blood work. The size of this tumor was 3.5 INCHES by 2.5 … and luckily not spreading into his nerves or brain. Because this orbital tumor is pretty rare, most vets don’t even know how to perform this surgery and quoted me insane numbers just for radiation which wouldn’t even help him. Poe had to go to a specialist at the VCA. Where an amazing vet could in fact perform the surgery… they needed to remove his eye and get the tumor out.
Seeing 4 specialists, testing, CT scans were about 4k and his surgery is about 8k. Financially, this has been beyond hard for us. We just experienced vet bills for Zuko and his loss which we haven’t even fully processed. We work multiple jobs and had to take time off to get Poe to vet appointments, pretty much once a week for a month.
The vets findings were that if Poe got this surgery he could live a full and healthy life for years to come as his breed can live to be 17 and his bill of health outside of this was great.
If you can help us in anyway we would be forever grateful. I realize so much is happening in the world and I feel immense guilt even asking someone to help us when so many are suffering but it would really mean the world to us. Any little amount is welcomed as it is making sure we can get this taken care of for Poe. ❤️
