Pursuit of Higher Education (PoHE)

Donation protected
The Pursuit of Higher Education (PoHE) is a program hosted by the Hmong Student Association at Berkeley (HSAB). It was established in 2008 as a space for high school and college students to engage and dialogue about higher education in the Hmong community. The goals of PoHE are to provide guidance and assistance about the college process and experience to high school youth throughout California. This unique program aims to promote and increase awareness about college institutions outside of Hmong communities. PoHE is an all-expenses paid 3 day, 2 night program that offers various college workshops, a campus tour, and fun activities to high school students.

With your support, PoHE will be that much more enriching for the students who look forward to learning about higher education and options beyond high school. Your contribution to PoHE will be greatly appreciated.

"PoHE provided me with the resources that I could not have obtained by myself in my hometown community. This was an eye opening experience that really defined what higher education is and how I can reach my goals as a first generation Hmong American student."

"PoHE was a life changing experience for me. I learned so much about myself and [the] richness of my history. I loved the identity workshop. A quote I would say, 'No history, No self. Know history, Know self." ...It is a life changing experience and after PoHE I truly understand why our parents push us so hard to pursue a higher education."

"A moment I will always remember is our hike to the Big C. When all the highschool students, mentors, coordinators, and volunteers made it to the top of the hill, we all looked out into the starry night sky and the city lights of the Bay Area together as if peering into our own futures, realizing our potentials, and sharing it with one another."
                                           - Maxie Moua, PoHE 2014 Mentor

"I loved mentoring for PoHE. The Planning Committee were super supportive and I feel so thankful to have had the chance to reap the fruit of their labor. Honestly, it was tough work being a mentor while also balancing my other priorities, but it was definitely worth it. The mentees were exceptional, and witnessing their growth throughout the program was incredibly inspiring. "
