Help Save My Mother’s Home:
Our Only Place to Call Home
My mother’s home—the first and only house she has ever owned—is at risk of being sold at auction due to predatory property tax lien practices.
In 2017, my mother purchased her home outright with an inheritance from my late Uncle Glyne Farrell. For our family, it was more than a house—it was a symbol of hope, safety, and a fresh start. Before this, we had never owned our own home. In fact, during my teenage years, my mother and I were homeless for a couple of years.
Today, this modest home is where my mother, my 18-year-old son, and I live. It is our only source of stability.
What Went Wrong?
Shortly after purchasing the home, my mother—unfamiliar with the responsibilities of homeownership—fell behind on property taxes. Without her knowledge, a third-party company, Investa Services, paid the delinquent taxes and placed a lien on the property.
By 2022, Investa attempted to sell our home at auction, giving us only a few days’ notice. We barely avoided losing it, thanks to the intervention of a local nonprofit and a last-minute appeal. But the financial strain remains, as Investa continues to add amounting fees and interest, keeping us in a constant state of anxiety and financial hardship.
Our Situation Now
• My mother is retired (She is 72 years old) & I am a single mom earning less than $30,000 a year.
• Part of the home has severe damage, including an exposed roof and wall, that we cannot afford to repair. The deck also needs to be rebuilt.
• We are doing our best, but every month brings us closer to losing our home—and we have nowhere else to go.
Why We’re Asking for Help
We are humbly asking for your support to raise enough funds to:
1. Pay off the tax lien in full and stop the threat of foreclosure.
2. Make critical repairs to the roof, wall & deck so the home is safe and livable.
3. Preserve the only home my family has ever owned—and the only one my son and I have.
About Investa Services
Investa Services, although a legal entity, has a well-documented history of aggressive and predatory tactics. Multiple families across Georgia have suffered from their practices, and multiple lawsuits and consumer complaints have been filed.
