Urgent: protection from Homelessness & serious illness
Please contribute to our emergency campaign to get Frieda urgent medical care and protect her and her sons from a deadly life on the street: She is ALL they have!
UPDATE July 17th, 2025:
Saved from homelessness by your love and support, Frieda and her boys had the privilege of moving into a small, low cost flat.
But they will face the threat of life on the streets once again if help cannot be found with meeting their monthly rent and utilities payment.
THE FAMILY'S STORY:
Fifteen years ago, Frieda was diagnosed with SLE - in which the L is for "Lupus". This word basically translates to "wolf" in Latin and describes how this dreaded, incurable chronic disease attacks the organs and immune system.
In 2022, she had to end her successful career of almost 30 years due to the progression of her disease.
In 2023, their medical insurer rejected a major hospital claim. And Frieda had to pay the full cost of long ICU hospitalisation herself. In the process, up to their last future savings had to be drained. Frieda and the boys were plunged into poverty overnight.
As she could no longer pay for anything, their medical insurance was cancelled together with all present and future security.
Frieda's health has therefore deteriorated significantly without proper medical care over the last 2 years.
Initially, it was challenging to find work opportunities and now it has become impossible for her to work. She is too ill.
Due to a cognitive deficiency that has rendered them disabled, Frieda's young adult, sons will never even be able to complete just one year of high school. They are therefore not able to work either.
Her eldest son also had complete hearing loss from his highly premature birth. Although he received cochlear implants, he stands to lose these without medical insurance. His world will be silent for the first time in 22 years... And ever since he can remember.
At this stage, they cannot obtain any support or help within their own country (South Africa). They do not have any living family. Social circles were also not maintained as Frieda worked from home since 2005 and devoted all her energy to providing for the boys financially, developmentally, educationally and emotionally.
No member of the family qualifies for any social security grants. The underdeveloped, overloaded healthcare system - on which 85% of the country relies - can also not efficiently meet their needs.
There is no "welfare department" and ordinary citizens are barely able to take care of their own, let alone other families.
It is a situation of hopelesness and despair they cannot overcome alone, in spite of their very best efforts.
When you saved them from homelessness, you gave them their own roof to sleep under, walls to keep them safe, warmth in an icy winter and you provided them with food.
As no other doors have opened for them, the family has to remain reliant on international crowdfunding for the payment of:
* Monthly rent (€300 pm)
* Compulsory utilities (€145 pm)
* Frieda's medication (€180)
* as well as
Very basic groceries (€150)
This comes to a total of 775-800 Euro monthly from end of July.
The family has no choice but to reach out to you for contributions of any kind to keep avoiding a fatal end on the streets.
They will therefore receive any and all contributions with much humility and gratitude.
Thank you so sincerely and from all our hearts.

UPDATE!!!!
Dear Friends,
Since setting up this fundraiser last year, this mother's health has deteriorated severely and she is in need of care.
But she was also given notice to move out by end of May a few weeks ago and has to remain with her sons.
She has been searching for alternative accommodation, but urgently requires assistance with funding for that.
The family has been solely reliant on the fundraiser for daily survival and medical care. Although she continues actively to search for employment on a daily basis.
They are also now crucially reliant on financial support for anything reasonable that may still be available.
In effect, a total of €900 would still be required to pay the required standard deposit plus 2 months' rent that are all payable upfront.
They have no other options but do retain faith in the goodwill of others.
So this is a desperate and urgent appeal!!!
Please help save these vulnerable people from a life on the streets!!!
Every contribution makes a difference and you can have a lifesaving, eternal impact!!!!

(previous text, situation at that time. present situation has worsened!)
Dear supporter,
My friend's small family has faced a lot of hardship this year - and now they are in urgent need of emergency financial assistance. With a firm belief in the kindness of strangers, I am appealing to the world to help ease their struggles.
This sweet woman of my age (55) was employed by the same company all her life. As the only parent and provider, she has always dedicated herself to her family and working hard for them.
Unfortunately, she has been suffering of a dread disease for 14 years (Systemic Lupus Erythematosis, which also breaks down the organs). She was no longer able to fulfil her corporate duties by 2022 and had to resign.
Her two sons cognitively impaired, which means that they are unable to learn normally. They respectively achieved the 4th and 7th grades with a lot of hard work but could not progress further. Naturally it is impossible for them to find employment.
The eldest is also hearing disabled and, although he relies on cochlear implants for hearing, he was never able to learn normal speech - due to his cognitive deficiencies. The boys are reliant on a lot of medical and therapy support.
Earlier this year, my friend suffered financial devastation when falling seriously ill. Her hospital costs were not covered by medical insurance. She was responsible for full payment herself and this depleted all the funds she had access to. This consisted of all her savings - and the security she had built up for her family.
As a result, she no longer had any money to live on - immediately and in future. Her medical and life insurance could no longer be paid and both were cancelled, leaving her and her dependent sons without any permanent health and income sources.
My friend is skilled and experienced in various business areas and has been seeking employment on a remote basis for months. She's willing to put in any hours and to adapt to any new roles, but in spite of her efforts, has not been successful.
She no longer has any living family who can help her.
Her health is rapidly deteriorating due to a lack of proper medical care.
Almost two months ago, the family was evicted. They are now living in a 6m2 storage room without any basic necessities such as electricity or washing facilities.
There is currently not even money for food: they sporadically receive some from a church community and a charity. These items often require cooking - which is impossible. Due to what is now severe pancreas disease, my friend can also not tolerate all foods.
The family no longer has any means of survival. Apart from my friendship and support across continents, they have become completely isolated abroad. It breaks my heart that I am not able to provide all the help they need so far away.
Ultimately, my friend is committed to working again so that she can be in the position to afford medical care, a small apartment and, of course, food for her family. Especially over this festive time that is a challenge - but it would be so wonderful for them to be lifted from the squalor of that storage room soonest.
So there will be immense gratitude for your donations to help rescue these vulnerable people from the very deep pit they are trapped in.
Anything that can contribute to their survival will be appreciated.
Thank you so much!
