UPDATE: With the cuts made to Medicare his meds have raised an additional $550 per month. He will have to stop treatment if he isn't able to pay for his prescriptions and treatment. He has had several surgeries to remove organ that have stopped working, gallbladder, large section of his left lung. Not to mention the surgeries to remove infections and puss. Any help would be grateful. Please consider on donating, whether it’s $5, $25, or $50 or more. You have no idea what it really will do for him. Please take the time to read up on his situation. He has really lost everything because of his sickness.

We are a team of volunteers who have been providing transportation and support to our friend, Ronald Nail in his battle with Multiple Myeloma Cancer since he was diagnosed at age 49 in 2017. Ron had a long, successful career as a branch manager of a national company until this devastating illness struck. The pain caused by a large tumor on his spine required radiation and continual chemotherapy treatments which rendered him unable to work. In the last four years, he has had to liquidate his beautiful 4-bedroom home with pool, beloved truck, and two cars (one a classic) to pay for his ongoing insurance copayments. He is single and lives in an apartment close to the oncology facility in Tucson. After a long wait, he finally secured Social Security Disability Income which barely covers his rent (currently ($1,200) and utilities. He has been forced to use credit cards to pay the $600/mo. copay for prescriptions and the current annual supplement of $2,600, and is barely able to keep up with the monthly minimums on those cards. His sister provides his food and various necessities to the degree that she is able.

Ron has had numerous hospital stays for life-threatening blood clots and other complications and dental issues resulting from the disease and treatment side effects. His wish to have the necessary bone marrow transplant was put on hold for over a year due to COVID, so it is critical that he keeps his cancer at bay with regular treatments so that can be scheduled. There will be significant costs associated with the procedure as it requires complete isolation in a 25-day hospital stay and an additional period of 25 days at home in a sterile protected environment.

 

Ron has always been the first one to step up to help others and still maintains a cheerful disposition and thankfulness in his spirit in spite of the pain and struggle getting around on his walker. He is a blessing to many in the oncology treatment facility and to all of us. If you can give even the smallest amount, he would be overwhelmed! PLEASE HELP IF YOU CAN!
