Andres was diagnosed with Type I Diabetes at age 3. Since then he has faced numerous hurdles in his life due to poor health. Numerous hospital admissions, unstable blood sugar levels, infections, finger pricking and several insulin injections a day have been his "normal". He has never asked "why me?", he has enjoyed life the best he could.
Six years ago he started a relationship with Skye and together they have a beautiful little girl, Octavia. They are a beautiful little family but have serious financial difficulties. He hasn't been able to work for a couple of years due to kidney failure needing nightly dialysis. His blood pressure has been extremely high and he is on countless medications. He had been on the waiting list for a double transplant - kidney and pancreas for quite some time.
The call we have all been waiting for finally came and he received a double transplant on Saturday 1st Nov.
Skye cannot stay in Melbourne with him because she needs to work to pay the bills and they live in Sale, country Victoria. She works part-time and has been the sole income earner for 2 years. She cannot afford to not work. She won't be able to visit and support him. He needs to be in Melb. for daily hospital visits for up to 6 weeks after discharge. His recovery will be twice as hard without his partner and daughter by his side. Skye needs to be here with him, not at work far away. Their families are helping but we cannot cover all expenses so that Skye can be by his side at the time when he needs her the most.
Not wanting to abuse your support, we ask that you help them if you can.
