This urgent GoFundMe for cancer surgery is all about Pixie (retired racing Greyhound from Australia), a champion racer winning 1st, 2nd, Place in 47 out of 58 races. A working dog who did her duty and Racing 2 Home helped her travel to Royal Hounds Greyhound Adoption in Seattle. Wonderful fosters Karen, James, their two Greyhounds Harry and Danica took Pixie into their home and helped her prepare for her person...me! I adopted this amazing dog on August 11, 2023, soon to be two years now! Pixie was 4 years old at adoption.
Pixie was diagnosed on July 23, 2025, with Osteosarcoma (aggressive bone cancer). It was a sudden onset on July 12, 2025, when she showed a bump on her left front leg wrist and was limping. Our vet team at Saltwater Animal Hospital looked her over. I thought she had a sprain from zoomies. The bump grew, the limping became more intense, and I was able to pay for X-rays on July 23, 2025. The aggressive Osteosarcoma bone cancer had already destroyed her left wrist. Pixie's chest/lungs showed no cancer spread. A second opinion from a radiologist confirmed this. Now the race is on!
Pixie needs an URGENT Peak Limb Amputation. ASAP according to our vet team at Saltwater Animal Hospital. Cancer is only in her left leg and being young (6 years), in great shape, all up to date including dental, Pixie is an ideal candidate to be a tripod and live a long life! Her prognosis with this URGENT surgery is excellent. Time is of the essence as this type of cancer is aggressive and spreads. We are catching this early as only her left leg is affected.
The estimate for Peak Limb Amputation by a specialist at Saltwater Animal Hospital in Des Moines WA is: $5450.83 before taxes. There could be other miscellaneous fees. I recently paid for her exam, evaluation, and X-rays but can't come up with this needed surgery amount.
Our lives have been a bit of a rodeo since Christmas 2024. I had 3 ER visits, a hospitalization, and two kidney stone surgeries, weeks of lost income. Pixie did have two small surgeries for torn nails on her right back paw, her dental cleaning, and extractions. Pixie is all up to date on everything. She is in excellent shape and young. We didn't see this one coming. Apparently, Osteosarcoma is not uncommon in large dogs.
Please find it in your heart to help Pixie live a long life. This URGENT surgery literally will save her life. She earned a loving home and full life. Everyone who meets Pixie loves her intelligent, funny, affectionate, playful, goofy nature.
Thank you, Christine and Pixie
