Paying Tribute to Sylvia Cole aka "Tutu"
Donation protected
Aloha Ohana & Friends,
My name is Twyus Peahu of Anahola and many of you personally know my mother Sylvia Cole aka "Tutu", as she has touched so many lives with 40+ years of teaching on Kaua'i. If you didn't know her personally, she is one of the most spunky, energetic, and strongest souls around-even at the age of 84! Sylvias community involvement, volunteer work and lifelong learning with preschoolers were her main priorities. Children were the source of her youthful energy as she was doing what she loved everyday!
By the end of April 2020 Sylvia had already been treated for a staff infection on her leg and undergone a bone marrow surgery. Being the trooper that she was, she would continued visiting her many grandchildren around the island. Having beaten cancer, multiple times, this woman was a true survivor at heart. The real tragedy struck the night of August 7th, 2020 when Sylvia fell at her daughters house, suffered a detrimental blow to the head and was rushed to Wilcox ER. While she was able to communicate that night , it was short lived. The bleeding in her brain worsened overnight and the following day Tutu was unresponsive. Although family poured into Wilcox Hospital to take turns being with her, Sylvia passed away late Saturday night on Aug 15th, 2020.
This fundraiser will help with any medical bills and to alleviate the financial burden that comes with the sudden passing of a loved one. Due to Covid, we understand many cannot give at this time and that is OK! You can still help Sylvia by sharing this on social media, other platforms , with friends and family or even at your church.
A little background to share who this inspiring woman is-
Sylvia successfully raised 10 children on her own after the loss of two husbands. She has conqoured cancer multiple times, and is a SURVIVOR with a zest for life! She served as secretary on the board for Anahola Community Association; conducted pre-school surveys as a Community Aid for KEO before becoming a teacher. She lead fundraisers as the board secretary of the Kawaihau Little League and team mother for the Anahola Dodgers. Sylvia is also a board member of the Anahola Community Youth Association and Kaha Hale Pono, Inc. Until march of 2020 you could find Sylvia every Wednesday at the Anahola Food Bank, delivering to kupuna in need. Having been involved in countless community beautification projects from Anahola parks (upper & lower) to Kawaihau baseball field, both Kamalani Play ground / Bridge just to name a few. Sylvia Cole and her lifelong community involvement will forever endear her to Anahola, as well as the Kauai Community.
