Sheena's Chiari Brain Surgery

PAY IT FORWARD IN SHEENA'S NAME
My beautiful daughter Sheena has a rare condition called Chiari Malformation. What is Chiari you ask? It is a serious neurological disorder where the bottom part of the brain, the cerebellum, descends out of the skull and crowds the spinal cord, putting pressure on both the brain and the spine. Basically her brain is too big for her head and is pushing the cerebellum into the spinal cord. Sheena has already had one decompression surgery however, her condition now is critical. She has no fluid moving from the brain down the spinal column. She suffers from excruciating pain, nausea, balance problems, Body/muscle weakness, spasms, chronic fatigue, passing out, choking, drop attacks, and added pain with laughing, sneezing, crying or bending over.

She is an amazing girl and has always excelled in anything she has done. She attended Wright State University her Junior and Senior year of High School and was also selected out of the top 3% of the NATION to attend a Law Forum! She worked in a coffee house and paid her way through college and graduated from Boston University with high grades. Sheena now attends the University of Colorado Studying Law to become a Child Advocacy Lawyer, but has had to take a medical leave of absence due to her constant pain and passing out. Since she had to take a medical leave of absence ALL of her funding has stopped including her medical insurance! She works at a coffee shop to pay her college bills and her living expenses but now is unable to do that. Her Dr. has advised her that surgery is her only opition and she needs it immediately. Surgery is scheduled for March 4. He will be taking Membranes from the top of her head, inserting a Titatium Plate, then opening the lining of her brain and inserting the membrane to allow more room, At the same time he will perform the decompression surgery. Anyone who knows Sheena or meets her falls in love with her. She is always putting others above herself. She has the biggest heart of anyone I know. My hope is that this will be her last surgery and she will be pain free for life! She has worked hard in school and overcome many obstacles to get to where she is today.

What this fundraiser hopes to do is raise enough money for Sheena to be able to pay for her Insurance, her medication, housing, food and any other medical expenses she might have. She has a long road of recovery even after the surgery and is not use to not working. More than anything she wants to get back to college, she has only 2 years left! This surgery will be such a set back for her after she has worked so hard.
