This is Brooks. The most lovable, sweet little 4 year old boy that you would ever meet. Brooks has Phelan Mcdermid Syndrome, a rare genetic disease involving a mutation or deletion on the 22nd chromosome. This lifelong disease has caused Brooks to have kidney disease, sleep apnea, autism, hypotonia, global developmental delay, and the worst of all seizures that can be medication resistant. This syndrome has turned the lives of him and his loving family upside down. They have had to go from two incomes to one. Brooks mother, Tiffany is no longer able to work due to Brooks multiple therapies and having over 15 doctors that they juggle appts with along with out of state specialist visits. Brooks enjoys the things that every little boy his age loves: cars, trucks, going for car rides, playgrounds and most of all his favorite show Blippi. Brook’s condition prevents him from enjoying life to the fullest. He has been in and out of the hospital for seizures, fevers, and other medical issues and on a ventilator multiple times. He has braces to help him walk and countless therapists to help his family let him reach his highest potential. But even with so much assistance his mother and father can’t rest for even a second. At night this sweet little boy is hooked up to several monitors to make sure his heart rate and oxygen are at safe levels and a seizure doesn’t happen. He is needing machines to help him breathe every time he gets a little cold or a slight fever can land him in the hospital. Because of this Brooks is in need of a medical service animal to help with seizure detection , balance, and medication retrieval. Brooks’ parents are attempting to save $10000 for the training needed for a service dog that ultimately could save Brooks’ life in a needed moment as well as pay for clinical trial treatment travel. There is currently no treatment for Phelan Mcdermid syndrome but there is a promising trial that requires 4 trips to New York City within 7 months. This obviously causes a large financial burden on this family. With your help, Brooks can get his trained loyal companion and a chance at a treatment. Please help us to ensure his safety and a burden off the mind of his loving parents by donating!
