Vietnam Veteran 'Road to Recovery'

Donation protected
Dear Supporters,

My sisters and I are requesting support for our father, Paul Elton Boutte, Sr.  Most people know his as 'Joe.' He is a very funny, loving, and easy-going spirit. Everyone who meets him absolutely loves his energy and charismatic personality. His absolute favorite things to do are fishing, visiting with family and friends, barbequing, boiling crawfish, and working on his boats:)

Eventhough our dad has had a blessed life, he has had some very trying times. He is an Army veteran; he served his country on two tours during the Vietnam War. He is very proud of his time as a soldier. Although he does not regret his military experience, he has suffered with Post Tramatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) most of his life due to the events he faced while in war. He has struggled with depression and anxiety for many years now, and this has caused many unfortunate challenges for him.

At age 17, our dad joined the Army.

On March 31st, our father had a horrible fall that caused him to severly injure his spine. He was in Lafayette General Hospital for 3 weeks due to his injuries; his spine is in shock right now with swelling and bruising that is causing nerve damage. Prior to this incident, he had gone through multiple back surgeries with the most recent being in December 2016. He was doing really well following his last surgery with very little back pain and the ability to be active as he loves to be.

Dad in early March 2017; he was relaxing with his pup, Papit. His back felt so much better after the December surgery.

In addition, our father recently lost his home and all personal belongings to a fire on January 27,  2017.  Just as he was successfully recovering from back surgery and getting through the lose of his home, the fall incident occurred.

On April 1 he had to undergo a Laminectomy (decompression surgery) in order to relieve the pressure on his spine caused by fluid and swelling; he was in ICU for a week. Unfortunatly, he has limited movement in his arms and fingers with very little strength in his legs. Due to his injuries, he has to undergo intense rehabilitation for several months in order to regain his ability to function normally, use his arms, and walk again. Our dad is currently being treated at Touro Rehabilitation Hospital in New Orleans, LA.

April 3:  Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Lafayette General Hospital during his first week after the spinal injury.

April 16: Our dad for Easter at Lafayette General Hospital (a few days before his transfer to Touro Rehab in New Orleans).

April 19: At Touro Rehabilitation Hospital on Day 1 of therapy.

Our dad has always been a very active individual, and we desperately want him to get the treatment he needs in order to carry on with the life he  deserves. Although he has made some progress, he still has a long journey ahead. He has had so many struggles in his life and we would love your help to give back to him as he so selflessly gave by serving his country during the Vietnam War.

Unfortunately, we have no family living in New Orleans to visit with our dad periodically. The drive to New Orleans is a 2-3 hours for most of his children and family to visit with him. We believe that supporting him each day even with short visits will help to keep him encouraged to press forward during this difficult time.  Therefore, we are raising money to cover his medical expenses, assistive devices, home changes to accomodate his condition, home health expenses, and travel/lodging costs for his children to visit him during the next 6+ weeks that he is in therapy.  Any support will be greatly appreciated....we also ask that you pray along with us for his full recovery. Thank you all so much for your compassion and kindness!

This picture means so much to us.  We're standing strong for you Dad, and will do anything to see you through this! God is in control and he's always looking out for you....Love you with all our hearts!!
