Small Patterns. Big Futures.
High-quality child care is one of the greatest challenges facing Indiana families—and one of the greatest opportunities to strengthen our communities.
Indiana consistently ranks among the most challenging states for families seeking affordable, high-quality child care. Across Marion County, the demand for care continues to outpace availability, especially for infants and toddlers.
Today:
- Only about half of children ages 0–3 have access to high-quality early learning opportunities.
- Child care costs consume far more than the recommended share of many families' household budgets.
- Thousands of infants and toddlers lack access to the care their families need.
The effects reach far beyond young children. When families can't find or afford quality child care, parents delay returning to work, businesses struggle to retain employees, and communities lose opportunities to thrive. High-quality early learning isn't simply a family issue—it's essential community infrastructure.
Expanding Child Care Opportunities in Midtown
These statewide challenges are felt every day in Midtown Indianapolis.
As our neighborhood continues to grow, so does the need for high-quality early learning opportunities for young children. Midtown families often face long waitlists and limited availability while searching for full-time, year-round care close to home.
That's why we're building Patterns Early Learning Center.
Opening in Fall 2027 at 46th & Illinois, Patterns will be a nonprofit early learning center designed to serve Midtown families during the years that matter most. More than a childcare center, Patterns will be a place where children develop lifelong patterns of confidence, curiosity, creativity, and belonging through meaningful relationships, hands-on learning, and joyful exploration.
Because the patterns formed in early childhood can shape a lifetime.
Why Patterns?
Our vision is to create a high-quality early learning community that welcomes families from every income level. Through scholarships, need-based tuition assistance, and CCDF support, our goal is to build classrooms where children from all backgrounds learn, play and grow together.
Because every child deserves an incredible beginning.
A Community Partnership
Patterns is possible because of the extraordinary generosity of Common Ground Christian Church. This remarkable partnership allows us to invest more resources where they'll make the greatest impact: exceptional teachers, inspiring learning environments, meaningful experiences for children and expanded access for families.
Now we're inviting our community to help bring this vision to life.
Our Goal: $65,000 in Seed Funding
Your support will help us:
- Hire our founding executive director
- Complete licensing and startup expenses
- Furnish classrooms with high-quality learning materials
- Recruit and invest in exceptional teachers
- Build a sustainable scholarship fund
- Prepare every detail to welcome our first students in Fall 2027
Whether you give $25 or $2,500, every contribution helps lay the foundation for a place that will serve Midtown children and families for generations.
