As many of you know by now, I had a terrible accident in mid-June. I fell and tore my patellar tendon (the tendon that attaches the quadriceps muscles to the knee) and had to have surgery to repair the damage. While in rehab at the nursing home, I fell a second time, undoing all the surgeon's hard work. Following my second surgery, I am again in rehab at the nursing home, but my path toward recovery is long as the repaired tendon must be firmly attached to the kneecap before physical therapy can even begin. This means that physical therapy on my repaired knee cannot begin until mid-August. Overcoming this injury is difficult for anyone, but because of the challenges I already face with my Parkinson's disease and because I live alone, my family and I realize that continuing to stay at a rehab center/nursing home is the best option for me. However, my insurance is ceasing coverage for such a facility, so the costs for me to remain would be out of pocket.
I have been on disability for the past 14 years, and these mounting medical expenses I am now experiencing are simply more than I alone can afford. I am in need of financial help in order to stay in this rehabilitation/assisted living center through at least the end of July. Here, I am easily able to get the therapies I need to maintain my strength and improve my balance, and where I have much less risk of falling. After the additional time at the facility, I will return home but will continue to require much physical therapy for several months. I am hopeful and want to do all I can to make a safe and full recovery.
So many friends have offered to help in any way, and I am so grateful for that! I don't like to ask for help, but right now I am asking you for monetary contributions to my cause. Every little bit helps. I truly appreciate your friendship, and your kind and generous support.
